About Us
Our Mission
To address food insecurity in our community by providing healthy food to those in need, and through advocacy, education, and collaboration.
Goals
- Provide people who are food insecure with nutritious food in a manner that maintains dignity, builds health, and a sense of community.
- Provide a welcoming place where anyone can access nutritious food, socialize with others, and access information on community resources.
- To receive and distribute fresh, locally grown produce through increased refrigeration and freezer storage capacity.
- Provide opportunities with partner organizations to acquire food and share large quantity donations with other local food banks.
- Partner with food banks, community gardens, local business, and other agencies in Haliburton County to help anyone who is food insecure.
- Provide opportunities for community members to learn food skills such as the nutritional benefits of growing and preparing your own food.
- To own facilities which serve the needs of Minden Community Food Centre and provide space for collaboration with other organizations who support the needs of our clients.
- To raise sufficient funds to run the programs of the organization and contribute to reserves.
- To attract and retain board members who can provide the knowledge and experience to govern the organization and plan for the future.

Healthy Food Policy
Minden Community Food Centre recognizes that a healthy diet supports better outcomes for people in need. We strive to guide families to an improved quality of life by increasing access to nutritious food.
We acknowledge that all members of our community have a right to sustenance and personal dignity.
We recognize the power of building community through food and commit to working towards making healthy eating accessible to all.
We welcome newcomers and strive to share foods that reflect the diversity of our community.
We commit to sharing foods that are fresh as often as possible and to adhering to food safety standards set by Kawartha Pineridge Health unit.
We are conscious of the impact that our food choices and organization have on the environment.
We encourage donated foods consistent with these guidelines in mind.
History of the Minden Community Food Centre
The Minden Community Food Centre has been in existence for approximately 33 years. For years, the food bank moved from a church basement and retail spaces until we moved to 24 Newcastle Street, Minden, and began operating in the Fall of 2014
